The blaze started down by Cedar Lodge on Friday the 13th, downslope of our neighborhood where it has been growing and throwing threatening looks at our home. Today we got the advisory notice and then the pre-evacuation notice. Depending on what the fire does the neighborhood might move to a mandatory evacuation at any time.
Meanwhile, we are in MI where the well-watered lawns are emerald and decorated with fireflies in the evenings. We went to Meier Gardens and visited the Japanese Garden, among other things, where we are trying to be calm and philosophical at the prospect of losing our home and most of what we own, and a bit of Japanese poetry carved into the stepping stones warns me “What is coming is uncertainty.”
